What’s gone wrong with biodiversity conservation? Early career essay competition
The Luc Hoffmann Institute is working in partnership with ETH Zürich, Future Earth, Nature Sustainability, University of Cambridge Conservation Research Institute, University College London Centre for Biodiversity and Environment Research and WWF on a new initiative called “Biodiversity Revisited”. Here, the goal is to rethink how we undertake biodiversity conservation research going forward.
As part of this process, we have launched an early career competition where we are asking for short (<1,500 words) articles critiquing what’s gone wrong with biodiversity conservation to date and/or how we should do things differently. Seven prizes will be given of 1,000 CHF for the best entrants and winners will be invited to an exclusive convening event in September where we will be creating a new research agenda for biodiversity.

We are particularly keen to hear from entrants from the Global South and you do not need to be a conservation practitioner or researcher to apply. We loosely define “early career” as someone within 5 years of finishing their MSc or PhD (or who is still a student).
The closing date will be in mid-July 2019. Exact date to be determined soon.
